Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) is still a big problem among infectious diseases worldwide. Understanding host-pathogen interactions in TB is essential to d develop strategies and therapeutic tools to control Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). In this study, we performed the transcriptome analyses of macrophages infected with virulent Mtb strain H37Rv (Rv) or avirulent Mtb strain H37Ra (Ra), and found 750 differentially expressed genes between normal and two infected macrophages. As expected, differentially expressed genes are mainly involved in the induction of innate immune response against mycobacterial infections. Among the differentially expressed genes, solute carrier family 7 member 2 (Slc7a2) was strongly expressed in Ra-infected macrophages comparing to Rv. Induction of Slc7a2 was important for macrophages to remove intracellular survival of Mtb. Taken together, we suggest that Slc7a2 plays an important role in macrophages during Mtb infection. Our findings could be useful for development of new therapeutic strategies to control TB.
